This week in Drawing Club, our Reception children immersed themselves in the exciting story The Night Pirates. They loved stepping into a world of adventure as they worked together to create their own large collaborative pirate ship, sharing ideas and adding imaginative details. The children also drew and decorated their own treasure maps, complete with secret paths and hidden surprises. They practiced their early writing skills by creating a pirate checklist, thinking carefully about everything a pirate might need on a daring journey. It has been a wonderfully creative and adventurous week, full of storytelling, teamwork, and imaginative play.#NurturingFoundations #Flourishing

Reception Term 3 Art Project- The deep ocean

Over the past week, the Rainbow and Sunshine class children have been busy during Discovery Time working on a wonderful collaborative art project. They worked together brilliantly, adding a new part each day and watching their artwork grow and come to life!

Here’s what we explored:

Day 1 – Creating the Sea
The children used sponges to paint the ocean, experimenting with different shades of blue to make the water look deep and textured.

Day 2 – Seaweed
They carefully glued layers of green tissue paper to create swaying seaweed under the water.

Day 3 – Adding the Sand
We explored different ways to apply the sand and discussed what worked best. The children loved feeling the different textures.

Day 4 – Shell Patterns
The children arranged real shells into patterns, thinking about shape, size, and how they looked on the beach.

Day 5 – Painting Fish
After looking at photos of real fish from around the world, the children chose colours thoughtfully to paint their own fish with care and detail.

Day 6 – Jellyfish Creations
To finish, the children made paper plate jellyfish, adding wiggly tentacles and seeing how beautifully they completed our underwater scene.

Throughout the week, we linked our work to our book Clean Up! by Dapo Adeola, talking about why it’s important to look after our oceans, keep beaches clean, and protect sea creatures. This tied perfectly into our topic, Big Wide World, as we explored how we can care for our planet.

The children also learnt that artwork has a process — it takes time, patience, and adding small parts step‑by‑step to create something amazing.

The final artwork looks fantastic, and the children are very proud of what they’ve created together!
