George Box Chair of Governors

My name is George and I am a former Metropolitan Police Detective.

Shortly after obtaining my long service and good conduct award I was medically discharged due to lower back and neck injuries sustained on duty.

I have spent many years investigating child abuse and was a specialist in Paedophilia in Scotland Yard’s Specialist Operations Department, Organised Crime Group.  I was a regular Guest Speaker at Universities around the country and worked closely with the NSPCC London Investigation Team.

After my retirement I moved from London to Thanet with my wife and four children. Three of which started at Minster Primary School in years R,2 and 4. My wife and I became parent helpers.   After a year I was asked to become a parent governor, the following year I became vice chair and the following year I became Chair of the Governing Body.

I became a Local Education Governor when a place became vacant to free up space for more parents to join the Governing Body.   I sit on all of the governing body committee’s and represents the school at District and County meetings.   As Chair of Governors I am included in consultations regarding any building projects that arise.

Mrs K Alentis

Assistant Head Minster Church of England Primary School

I started teaching at Minster in September 2007. During my time at the school I have taught in Years 5 and 4 and I have led ICT, Modern Foreign Languages, and most recently Mathematics.

In addition to my subject responsibility I have also been Key Stage 2 Leader and am now Assistant Head. Other areas that I am currently responsible for are: Assessment, Teaching and Learning, Early Years Foundation Stage, Online Safety, NQT mentor, student mentor, school based work experience and voluntary work experience coordinator. In addition to these responsibilities I am also an active member of the school governing body and the Minster PFA.

I manage to combine all these elements of my job with being a mum to 2 school aged children!

I love my job and the ethos of Minster CE Primary School. I thrive on being part of a team that holds the children at the centre of its values and I feel proud to say that I have been involved in the successful journey that the school has been on over the past 7 years.

I become a governor because I wanted to take a more active role in my children's education, and to see first-hand how the school is run and try to help in any way that I can.

I am the Manager of the Kent Messenger Group and KmFm radio station and this allows me to help promote the school, with editorials and raise awareness of how good the school is in the Thanet area.

My name is Will Wollen and I am a C0-Opted governor at Minster Church of England Primary School.   I'm a freelance actor, theatre director and creative arts consultant as well as being Education Consultant for Propeller Theatre Company and a Visiting Associate Lecturer at the University of Kent.  I was Assistant Director of Touring, Outreach and Education at The Watermill Theatre before becoming Artistic Director at Theatre Royal Margate, a post I held between 2007 and 2012.  Before that I worked for Shakespeare's Globe and I've led workshops for adults and children of all age and as an actor I've worked in all scales of theatre from small-scale touring to the West End.  I trained as an actor after taking my degree in French & Philosophy at the University of Leeds. I live in Minster, while working mostly in Canterbury and London, and have two sons who attended Minster Primary School.
I became a governor because I wanted to use my experience in education and management to support and challenge the leadership team to be evermore ambitious for Minster children.  I enjoy seeing the school at work and have loved seeing the results of the hard-working staff team pulling together.
I'm also a governor at another primary school in Thanet which gives me a good opportunity to compare experiences.

I have a son, Thomas, who started at the school in 2014 and a daughter, Tillie, due to start this year.

It was important for me to become a Governor as I wanted to take an active role in my children’s education and help to make decisions that benefit all the children who attend the school.

Having lived and worked as a farmer in Minster all my life I feel that we have a fantastic school and that if we want to keep it that way then we all need to work hard towards making it the best that it can be.

I hope that my past experience from ambassador roles and farm management will be put to good use in promoting the school and raising awareness of its many successes.

Term of Office :- 18/12/2015 - 17/12/2019

Appointed by :- Election from Parents

Committee Responsibilities :-

Mrs N Barras

My name is Nicola Barras and I am a Parent Governor at Minster Primary School.

I have 3 boys who have all attended Minster Primary School with my youngest son still at the school in Key Stage 2.

Wherever possible, I try to support the school with any help they may need on a voluntary basis and like to support the school's fundraising activities when I can.

Having worked closely with the school for many years now, I feel I am ready to contribute in a more active role as a Parent Governor.

I care passionately about the education of all children and believe that Minster School support the children well in all aspects of learning and work hard to promote the school values to all children within the school.

Through my previous job of working in the local pre-school, I have always had good links with the school so I am fully aware of how important it is to help children integrate fully into the start of their school life.

Now working part-time as a Teaching Assistant at the school, I am privileged to work with the teaching staff and children on a daily basis and to have a real insight into how the school runs.

I hope my skills of working with children and their parents will enable me to provide a link between parents and the school and promote the work of the Governing Body and their role within the school.

Term of Office :- 25/04/2016 - 24/04/2020

Mrs P Gimes

I served 30 years as a police officer, working throughout Kent and engaged in both uniform and CID duties; several periods of my service were spent in Thanet. I was fortunate in being able to progress my career to achieve the rank of Superintendent and became the first female Area Commander in Kent, and was based in Thanet.

I retired and moved to live in the Highlands of Scotland for a few years. When I returned to Kent 4 years ago I moved to Minster and was impressed by the sense of community and decided I would like to make a contribution.
